This has been a phenomenal 2015 season for the Varsity and JV Davis Girls Track Teams. Fromthe start of the season, both teams were working hard and running well with the Varsity girls setting a new meet record in the 4x100 meter relay at the Buba Fife Relays, which was the first track meet. The young ladies continued to improve and run faster.
Tesha Lane continued to improve her 400 meters time and the girls relay team consisting of two seniors Tyana Davis and Daphne Smith and also two sophomores, Shauntezz-Marie Austin and Kenaysia Dixon won first place in both the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays nearly every time they stepped foot on the track. The young ladies were also the 2015 4x200 meter relay Champions at TSU Relays, which host some of the most competitive high school in and out of the state. Coming into the district meet the girls were focused and their results were proof of their hard work. The JV girl’s 4x100 meter team consisting of Mia Lloyd, LaCreesha Bates, Makayla McLaughlin, and Jada Reliford were district champions. The JV girls 4x400 meter relays team consisting of Mia Lloyd, Dazia Davis-Foreman, Jayla Thomas, and Jayla Williams placed third at the district meet. Holding their own in their individual races were Cednetra Thomas with a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter dash, LaCreesha Bates with a second place finish in the 200 meter dash, Jada Reliford was the JV girls 100 meter champion, and Makayla McLaughlin was the JV girls 200 meter district champion. The Varsity girls placed third overall for the team finish for the district meet. Not only did the girls place third as a team, the 4x100 and the 4x200 meter relay were the district champions to advance on to the area meet as well as the 4x400 meter relay consisting of Tesha Lane, Mya Lloyd, Evette Griffin, and Kaylin Washington placed forth to advance on to the area meet as well. Also, holding their own in their individual events to advance on to the area meet were Kalina Taylor placed third in the long jump, Tesha Lane placed fourth in the 400 meter, Shauntezz-Marie Austin placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash, Daphne Smith placed second in the 200 meter dash, Tyana Davis was the 100 meter dash district champion, and Kenaysia Dixon was the 200 meter Champion. Once the girls advanced on to the area meet the victories continued. The 4x100 and the 4x200 meter relay consisting of Tyana Davis, Shauntezz-Marie Austin, Daphne Smith, and Kenaysia Dixon were the area champions to advance on to the regional meet. Not only were the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay team the champions, Kenaysia Dixon was the 200 meter area champion again proving her ability to perform against the best.
The varsity girls continued their “Road to Sate” journey with a second place finish in the 4x100 meter relay and were the 4x200 meter relays Regional Champions once more to advance on to the state meet in both relays.The State Meet was a wonderful Experience for the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay team. The girls finished with a close fourth place with the time of 45.86 and placed sixth in the 4x200 meter relay. The girls have had a phenomenal 2015 track season and the coaching staff is extremely proud of the girls. The 2016 returning team is looking forward to the 2016 season to showcase their skills once more.
