Girls SoccerWith only three games left in district play, the Lady Falcons have delivered a very exciting season thus far! The Falcons captured a victory on Friday night bringing their district record to an impressive 6-2-1. Despite falling to an outstanding Memorial team twice, the Falcons have not lost against any of their Aldine opponents.
Their victory on Friday night showcased a dominating 6-2 end result over the Nimitz Cougars. Goal scorers for the Falcons were Ashley Medina, Stephany Lopez, Jennifer Mendoza, Dariana Recarte, and 2 goals for freshman, Juana Plata. Assists came from Juana Plata, Maritza Flores, and twice from Captain Emily Perez.
Freshman, Juana Plata, has respectfully earned the #2 in district spot in individual points with 10 goals and 3 assists. She trails the top spot by just 1 goal. Not bad for a freshman! Aside from Juana, she is surrounded by many talented players also ranking very high on the individual leader boards! Also appearing high on the district's individual stat tracker is Jennifer Mendoza, Dariana Recarte, Maritza Flores, and Captain Emily Perez all tied for 10th place with 9 points.
Positions that often go unnoticed are defenders and goalkeepers. Although these are not the players putting stats on the board, they are, more importantly, busy keeping opponents from boosting their own stats. The Davis starting defensive unit is composed of seniors Jasmin Rico, Karla Tobar, Odalys Quinones, and juniors Erene Contreras and GK Ivette Rodriguez. Collectively, this unit is ranked #2 in district, allowing fewer goals than any other Aldine school.
Tomorrow night, March 3rd, the Falcons take on MacArthur for the second and final time this season. We are looking to further improve our record in order to secure a 2nd place seed heading into the post-season. Game times are 4:30for JV and 6:30 for Varsity at Thorne Stadium. GO FALCONS!
