Art Student RecognizedThe Association of Texas Photography Instructors recently announced the Fall 2014 contest winners. Of the more than 6,500 entries, only a little more than 10 percent either won best of category, placed or received honorable mention.Aldine ISD had one student earn recognition. Davis High School‘s Omar González was among the 690 honored.\The six judges had their hands full. They spent six hours judging the entries from 81 schools.Texas schools weren’t the only ones competing. The entries also came from schools in California, Kansas, New York and Oklahoma.Rex Curry, Danny Hurley, and Lindsey Miller served on the panel of judges. Tadd Myers, Clif Palmberg and Mike Taylor also served as judges.Omar received an Honorable Mention in the Beginner High School Travel Category. The senior’s entry is a black and white photograph entitled “The Dark Side of the Apple.”His teacher Debora Conn couldn’t be happier for him.“Words cannot express how happy I am for Omar,” said Conn. “I am very proud of his achievement.”Omar aspires to continue to his education after graduating from high school. He also plans to pursue his passion for photography
