On November 5th and November 11th, the Falcon Ambassadors Culture Club celebrated National French Week and Diwali, The Festival of Lights.
The Falcon Ambassadors Culture Club is a student led organization under the supervision of Ms. Bryn Woodhouse, French Teacher and Ms. Kathyanne Sheffield, French Teacher. The organization’s mission and vision both embody the desire to create cultural awareness within Davis High School and to celebrate the cultures of the world. Student members celebrated National French Week by creating Eiffel Tower replicas out of marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti, playing a rousing game of “boules” and by participating in a crêpe cooking demonstration.
Diwali, The Festival of Lights, followed National French Week. Primarily a Hindu celebration, Diwali celebrates “...the victory of good over evil, light over dark and knowledge over ignorance” (The Week UK, 2015). Students celebrated by practicing the art of henna tattoos, sampling naan (an Indian bread) with various dipping sauces, samosas (a fried or baked pastry with a savory filling), gulab jamun (a sweet milk dumpling), and sesame candy.
For both celebrations, students created “Did You Know?” fact posters as well as banners that were posted throughout the school. Both celebrations were a huge success with many more to come!
