On November 9th 2015, Kayla Kaplan, Marketing Coordinator for NOV Quality Tubing, visited Davis High School to infuse a little real world into the online news program, the Aviator Online. The Aviator Online is a bi-monthly news program that is produce by the students at Davis High School. The Aviator Online is a current events type program produced and created by the students involved in the school's journalism program. The program sponsors are Ms. Skipworth and Mrs. Messenger, both language arts teachers at Davis High school. Ms. Kaplan used her knowledge as a marketing coordinator to help the students better understand how to reach their target market. As a recent graduate of the University of Houston, with a business degree in marketing, she spoke to the students in terms they were able to understand. She started the conversation by discussing with the students her discovery of her interest in business through exploration of CTE programs while a student at Klein high school. Students related with Kaplan, identifying with what she was talking about. She explained to the students that what they were doing in this class was a real world job and offered real world opportunities to develop their skill set for their future. Kaplan spent 40 minutes explaining to the students how to better identify target their market, and how to define it. She was very impressed with the student’s product and complimented how well it was produced. Students were excited to see how their initial school project has made it’s way out into the real world.
