Former Davis High School students, Nelson Ortez, Kailyn Benitez, and Xavier Henderson, stopped by the Davis Teaching Theater to participate in a college panel discussion for current OneGoal juniors and seniors. The former students gave a first-hand account of what college life is like and some of the struggles and challenges they faced during their first semester.
Kailyn, an Accounting Major at the University of North Texas, gave insight into financial aid and scholarships and the challenges of being away from home. Nelson, a History Major at Lone Star College, provided insight as to life while commuting from home to campus and the ramifications of having to take remedial classes. Xavier, a Kinesiology Major at Texas A&M Kingsville, as well as a member of the Kingsville Javelina Football Team, gave insight to the life of a college athlete and what he does to take full advantage of the athletic scholarship that he earned.
The OneGoal juniors and seniors left the panel discussion with a new drive and determination to focus on their academics, SAT prep, scholarship applications, and more. The advice and information that was given today will help to build a better future for all Davis Falcons.
Thank you, Nelson, Kailyn, and Xavier for being role models and inspiration for our students.
