On February 4, 2020, Davis High School TAFE organization hosted TxDOT “Teen Click It or Ticket Campaign.” Davis TAFE and Student Counsel Organization sponsors “Teens in the Driver Seat is a peer-to-peer program for teens that focuses solely on traffic safety and addresses all major risks for this age group. Hannah Lewis, vice president of TAFE and Diana Cruz, leads this program and presents monthly activities to spread the safety message not only to our students at Davis High School but also within our community.
In December 2019, Davis High School was recognized as an outstanding school in San Marcos, Texas.
The “Teen Click It or Ticket Campaign was a great success. The conference was led by a press conference with a host of speakers, Ugonna Ughanze the TxDOT Houston Director of Transportation, Lt. Craig Cummings (Texas Department of Public Safety, Mike Smith of Aldine ISD Police Department, Dr. T. Price (standing in place for our principal Mr. A. Watkins) We were also honored to have our local representative of Teens in the Driver Seat present Lisa Minjares. Our student body was very receptive to the campaign’s safety message. They participated in the Media Interview One-on-Ones and the Demonstration of the Experiential Activation. Students also signed a pledge banner to drive safely.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. We had approximately 350 students in attendance, along with their teachers.
